Nicki Minaj is making headlines regarding an upcoming performance. Yesterday (July 3), the New York rapper was confirmed as a headlining act for Jeddah World Fest in Saudi Arabia.

Jeddah World Fest is slated to take place on July 18 at King Abdullah Sports Stadium. According to Page Six, the concert is in line with Saudi laws of being alcohol and drug-free. The concert is also open to those who are 16 years of age and older. Luckily, for those who are unable to attend in person, it will be broadcasted globally by MTV.

Over the past couple of months, Saudi Arabia has seen performances by Mariah Carey, Enrique Iglesias, the Black Eyed Peas, rapper Sean Paul, and DJs David Guetta and Tiesto. The ultraconservative kingdom is looking to shed restrictions on entertainment.

After the news about Minaj hit the net, there were many mixed reactions. Of course, the Barbz are more than excited. However, conservative women of the kingdom are skeptical of Minaj who is known for her provocative lyrics and sometimes risqué clothing.

“Imagine waking up from a 3 years comma and the first thing you hear is Nicki Minaj opening an MTV musical festival in Saudi Arabia,” one Twitter user wrote. “I’d honestly think I woke up in some parallel universe s–t.”

“You can’t ask me to wear the abaya and dress conservative to a concert where you’re bringing Nicki Minaj and all her vulgarity and her songs about shaking her ass. What the f—,” said another fan.

“Nicki Minaj performing in Saudi Arabia,” a loyal fan wrote. “She’s truly the gift that keeps on giving.”

Regardless of the controversy surrounding the performance, Minaj continues to work relentlessly. Her latest single “Megatron” is doing great from a numbers standpoint. The 36-year-old spitter is also putting the final touches on her forthcoming album.
