Last night (July 2), Kanye West’s song “Brothers,” which features Charlie Wilson, premiered on BET’s second season of Tales.
On the track, Yeezy shares some heartfelt lyrics regarding brotherhood. He explains regret over a relationship that needs some reconciliation. After giving the lyrics a closer look, fans believe this might be a potential apology to JAY-Z.
“So I’m sorry for all the miscues/How about I admit that I miss you/I miss the fam and our brotherhood/I just wanna make sure that my brother’s good,” he raps. “So I ain’t embarrassed or above/ Flying out to Paris for a hug/ Or picking up the phone just to call up/Picking up the phone hope it’s all love,” he spits.
Tensions began to rise after The Carters didn’t attend Ye and Kim Kardashian West’s wedding in 2014. Two years later, during an on-stage rant, the Yandhi rapper called out Jay for not putting together playdates for their children. He also called out hip-hop’s first billionaire for not checking on Kim after she was robbed at gunpoint. A year later, during an interview, Jay explained that the two have resolved issues in the past, however, it’s difficult now that his family is involved.
“We’ve gotten past bigger issues, but you brought my family into it,” Jay explained. “Now it’s a problem with me.”
Nonetheless, fans’ speculations have begun to pour in on social media. “Is this Brothers song for Hov @kanyewest #TALESonBET,” a fan questioned. “Awwwwwwwwww…. Brothers x Kanye West … c’mon Hov make up guys,” another fan wrote.
Irv Gotti, the producer behind “Brothers,” explained that West instantly gravitated towards the track.
“It’s a great uplifting song and episode and he did it,” Gotti said speaking on the Sunday Service creator. “After he did that, it took a minute to get clearances and whatnot back. I got it done. The theme of the episode is about two brothers and their father. The brothers beef a little and then eventually come together.”
