R. Kelly had a court hearing on Wednesday (June 26), during which prosecutors gave his defense attorneys a copy of a DVD that reportedly showcases the singer engaging in a sex with an underaged girl.
According to Michael Avenatti, the lawyer representing the victim’s family, the sex tape captures Kelly and the victim, who was reportedly 14 at the time, on camera during which both parties acknowledge her age. The video also reportedly showcases several “distinct marks” that can be used to positively I.D. the man as Kelly.
“The tape we provided clearly depicts R Kelly engaged in sexual assault of a 14 year old girl,” Avenatti tweeted. “There is no question it is him. And both he and the girl acknowledge her age on the tape. R Kelly is a serial sexual predator and he will be convicted.”
Cook County Judge Lawrence Flood reportedly asked prosecutors to decide which case they want to proceed with first. Flood said that he hopes at least one of the four cases against Kelly will go to trial early next year. After Wednesday’s hearing, the singer is due back in court next on Aug. 15.
Most recently, during the latest episode of “Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta,” Kelly’s ex-wife, Drea Kelly, opened up about what it’s been like having to relive her experiences with the musician upon seeing each new headline about him.
“As soon as I feel like, ‘OK, I got me and the kids, we got a level of normalcy, life is going,’ some headlines [appear] – being arrested to new evidence surfacing to him not paying child support. I’m like, ‘What?’” she said during the episode. “And what’s worse is I find out like everybody else. I’m on social media, my phone is like, ‘ping, ping!’”
Kelly, who is currently facing 21 felony charges, has adamantly denied all wrong-doing and pleaded not guilty.
