Congratulations are in order for Cardi B. Last night (June 20), Cardi became the first female rapper to win Songwriter of the Year during the 34th annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards.

While accepting her monumental award from ASCAP CEO Elizabeth Matthews, Bardi expressed her gratitude towards the audience.

“I just want to say I’m very grateful,” she began to explain. “Sometimes I feel like I’m not doing too much because when it comes to female rappers, it’s like you’re never doing too much or they’re always pitting you against another female rapper. People on my team are like ‘Cardi, you’re crazy. You won a Grammy. Cardi, all your songs are charting.’”

Towards the end of her acceptance speech, Cardi clarifies that she rightfully earned every award she’s received throughout her career.

“Everybody always wants to say ‘I made it because of this or made it because of that,’” she stated. “I made it because I worked my ass off… Thank you very much, ASCAP. This is an honor for me.”

In the past, Cardi addressed rumors on the authenticity of her pen game. Last year, Cardi earned a spot on Billboard‘s Top Hot 100 Songwriters of 2018 list, which resulted in an angry Twitter user stating that Cardi has a team of writers.

Responding to the accusation, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper set the record straight regarding the situation.

“Because I do write a lot of my s–t that’s the thing,” she wrote. “Yes just like every other artist I do have a couple writer that help with hooks but I wrote plenty of songs on my album specially my mixtape. Ya just flip shit and ya want to believe the f–k shit so bad but EAT IT UP B—H!”

For the past couple of months, the Invasion of Privacy rapper has been filming Hustlers, a film that is set to hit theaters this fall.

Congrats, Cardi!
