On Tuesday (June 18), fans acknowledged the one-year anniversary of the death of XXXTentacion. Whether by praising his impact on music or condemning his controversial criminal history on social media, the late rapper was at the center of discussion yesterday.
After his estate announced a new documentary is in the works, which will tell the story of the late rapper’s career and come-up through archived footage and interviews, it was also revealed that more new music is on the way as well.
Following X’s estate sharing the trailer for the upcoming film, during which the Florida native can be heard talking about how the recorded interview will be the last time he tells his story, news broke that fans can also look forward to another posthumous album.
“X’s musical influence is sure to expand upon the upcoming release of his brand new album, which will feature some of today’s hottest stars,” XXXTentacion’s estate confirmed in a press release.
The previously unheard music will mark his second posthumous album to be released. The first, Skins, dropped in December 2018. The addition of the forthcoming project will mark his fourth album in his catalog overall.
Prior to his death in 2018, he released 2017’s 17 and 2018’s ?, both of which have been certified platinum by the RIAA. XXXTentacion’s standout single, “Sad!,” recently hit 1 billion streams on Spotify, a significant milestone achieved just shortly before the one-year anniversary of his murder.
As previously reported, X was shot and killed in his car on June 18, 2018, outside of a motorcycle dealership in Pompano Beach, Fla.
Since his death, his girlfriend gave birth to his son, Gekyume Onfroy, on Jan. 26, three days after what would have been the rapper’s 21st birthday. Four men have been indicted on first-degree murder and armed robbery charges stemming from the fatal shooting.
At the time of this report, XXXTentacion’s estate has not revealed a title for the upcoming project, nor a release date.
