Did Future sample his ex, Ciara, on a new song?
On Friday (June 7), the Hndrxx rapper released his new EP, SAVE ME, and fans couldn’t help but notice similarities on one song in particular.
“Shotgun,” the fourth track on Future’s debut solo EP, features instrumentals which reminded many of Ciara’s 2006 hit, “Promise.” Furthermore, the lyrics also mention the word “promise” which was enough evidence to send the internet into a frenzy.
“Got a crystal pool, got a MAC-11/Got a chef that’s whippin’ up lobster spaghetti,” Future raps before adding, “Shouldn’t have said, ‘Pop it, pop it,’ girl, they all jealous/I ain’t talkin’, girl, I’m makin’ a promise.”
“Listening to Future’s #Shotgun [and] all of sudden I wanna listen to Ciara’s song Promise bruhhh he done sampled her song,” one person tweeted. “Future must definitely be in his feelings to be using a Ciara sample on Shotgun. LOL,” another user wrote.
At press time, it is unconfirmed whether the Atlanta native did, in fact, sample the track. “Shotgun” was produced by the late Seth Firkins and Noel “Detail” Fisher. Ciara, however, is not listed in the song’s writing credits.
Earlier this month, the “Level Up” singer opened up about her decision to split with Future in a candid interview with actress Jada Pinkett-Smith for her popular Facebook Watch series, “Red Table Talk.”
“When I was thinking about my son, I know what I want to feel. I know the kind of love that I want for us,” she said about their 2014 breakup. “Future [Jr.] was like my teddy bear. So I was like, we gon’ go. We ’bout to do this thing together.”
Ciara went on to marry NFL player Russell Wilson in July 2016 and the two share a daughter, Sienna Princess Wilson, together. Keep reading to hear Future’s “Shotgun,” then listen to Ciara’s “Promise” to see if you hear any similarities.
