Since gaining notoriety for his 2013 breakout track, “My N–a,” YG has kept his sights set on developing a multifaceted career, both in music and entertainment.

While the Compton native recently announced that he has “one more album left” following the release of his new album 4REAL 4REAL later this month, it has also been revealed that he has taken on a new film role, which could indicate which direction he’s planning on taking his career next.

As reported by Deadline, YG is set to appear in Tuscaloosa, an indie drama that also stars Natalia Dyer, Devon Bostick, Tate Donovan and Marchant Davis. The coming-of-age story takes place in the summer of 1972 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and is based on the book by W. Glasgow Phillips.

The movie is directed by Philip Harder, who also wrote the script, and reportedly “follows Billy Mitchell, a disaffected son of Tuscaloosa’s white middle class who must choose a path forward as ties of family, class, race and love make competing claims on his loyalty.”

YG will be playing the role of Antoine, a civil rights activist and Vietnam war veteran who “tangles with the Tuscaloosa police in 1972.”

Most recently, the Stay Dangerous rapper appeared in the movie White Boy Rick opposite Matthew McConaughey.

While his tweet sharing that he’s got “one more album left” was vague, it also referenced the late Nipsey Hussle’s mantra, alluding that no matter what he’ll keep moving forward.

“After this album drop May 24th, I got 1 more album left, Finally bout to be a new man! The Marathon,” the rapper shared on Twitter on May 13.

Given the vague nature of his update, fans are wondering if the 4Hunnid artist will be making a full pivot into acting or if he will simply be beginning a new music contract. While he has yet to clarify exactly what his next chapter entails specifically, YG taking on a new acting role is certainly an exciting development.
