Are Drake and Taylor Swift releasing a song together soon? According to these clues, it sure looks like it.
On Thursday (May 9), Entertainment Weekly released the cover of its latest issue featuring none other than Swift as its cover star. On it, the 29-year-old singer rocks a denim jacket adorned with pins of pop culture references. However, there were two pins in particular that stood out to eagle-eyed fans.
“Track 5 features drake?” one person tweeted referring to the proximity of a pin with “track 5” labeled on it next to another pin of Drake from his “Hotline Bling” music video. Dedicated fans went even further with their theories, pointing out Swift’s praise of the Toronto native during her interview with the publication.
“I love his one-liners,” she gushed before reciting lyrics from his songs “Summer Games” and “Nonstop,” respectively. “Like ‘You say I led you on/But you followed me’ or ‘This a Rollie, not a stopwatch/It don’t ever stop,’” Swift rapped.
Elsewhere in the interview, Swift noted how she was inspired by Arya Stark of “Game of Thrones” for her last album, Reputation. “‘Look What You Made Me Do’ is literally Arya Stark’s kill list,” she told the outlet. “A lot of the songs were influenced by the show,” she added.
Why is this important? Because Drake also recently gave a shout out to the same Stark sibling while accepting his award during the Billboard Music Awards. “Shout out to Arya Stark for putting in that work last week, ayy!” he said in reference to the character’s heroic actions on the series. (Don’t worry, we won’t spoil it for you.)
So, what does this all mean? That a collaboration between the two, possibly “Game of Thrones” related, is on the way, maybe. “[I] feel like taylor & drake has a collab coming, and it’s something about arya stark or game of thrones in general. I’M EXCITED ASF,” one fan wrote.
“I love that [the fans] like the cryptic hint-dropping,” Swift admitted to Entertainment Weekly. The pop star has a history of incorporating Easter Eggs to keep fans guessing. “As long as they like it, I’ll keep doing it. It’s fun. It feels mischievous and playful,” she stated. Guess we will just have to wait and see if a Drizzy x Swift collab is really on the way after all when her new album drops.
