After dropping Tha Carter V in 2018, an album whose release was literally years in the making due to an ongoing legal battle, Lil Wayne fans thankfully won’t have to wait as long for what the veteran rapper reportedly has next in store.
As reported, Weezy recently announced an upcoming joint tour with pop-punk group Blink-182. However, it appears as though Ticketmaster let out a little secret that the rapper has new music on the way as well.
As fans were quick to point out, after purchasing a ticket to one of the upcoming concert dates, a message appeared on the checkout page of the ticketing site that every order comes with a “physical CD per order” of either “Blink-182 or Lil Wayne’s forthcoming album.” The message continues: “Approximately 24-48 hours after purchase, you will receive an additional email with instruction on how to redeem your album. US/Canadian residents only. One CD per online order. Not valid for Fan to Fan Resale.”
While the confirmation of Lil Wayne’s upcoming album is equally subtle and exciting (as well as possibly accidental), Lil Wayne has been dropping hints on social media in the form of the coffin emoji that his long-awaited Funeral project could be the next to see the light of day. Given that Blink-182 has already announced their upcoming album, it is only fitting that Wayne drop new music ahead of their tour as well.
According to Complex, the recently released live mash-up of Waynes “A Milli” and Blink-182’s “What’s My Age Again?” will not appear on either album, but rather was shared to help promote the forthcoming North American tour. If Lil Wayne and Blink-182 are on the same page as far as their upcoming teased albums go, fans are hopeful that the rapper will be next to follow suit in dropping a promotional single. This past Wednesday, the pop-punk vets released their lead single for their upcoming project.
As previously reported, Lil Wayne first revealed plans for Funeral three years ago during an interview on The Nine Club podcast. At the time, he confirmed its existence but did not mention a release date for the project.
“Just make sure they know that Funeral is coming soon,” Wayne said in 2016. “That’s my music. Get your roses ready. I don’t have a release date, but I have a whole bunch of good news coming soon. If you’re a Wayne fan, I know we’ve been going through a lot of tough times right now, but if you are a Wayne fan, we about to hold our heads high soon.”
