T.I. and the Harris family suffered a grave loss at the beginning of the year when the Atlanta rapper’s sister, Precious Chapman, died back in February after succumbing to injuries sustained in a tragic car accident.

While processing the passing of his sister, the Atlanta heavyweight found a way to honor her legacy in a fitting way and recently let fans in on his plans.

As announced during the taping of “Dear Mama: A Love Letter to Mama,” VH1’s annual tribute show creating space for celebrities to praise the women in their lives, T.I. has created a special scholarship fund in honor of his late sister.

During the tribute, T.I. honored Chapman, his mother, Violetta Morgan, wife Tiny Harris and her mother Dianne Cottle-Pope, going on to share the details of the newly established scholarship.

Aptly named the Precious Chapman Scholarship Fund, the initiative is designed to help ease the financial burden for college students by way of awarding a $25,000 prize. As announced during the VH1 event, the first installment of the fund was awarded to Tierani Scott, a junior at Philander Smith College.

“She was a single mother who worked to make life better for her children and everyone else that she encountered,” Tip said, touching on his sister’s legacy. “In the spirit of that, we have partnered with VH1 to award a deserving student a scholarship in my sister’s name.”

The selected student is currently on track to obtain a sociology degree. T.I. also pointed out how she’s balancing her coursework with being a single mother and hopes “that this scholarship will help her continue on her path to do great things in her future.”

As previously reported, T.I.’s sister Precious, whose birth name was Antoinette Chapman, passed away at age 66.
