What does Chris Brown, Michael Jackson, and Tupac Shakur have in common? Everything, if you ask Justin Bieber.

On Friday (May 3), just days before Brown’s 30th birthday, Bieber took to his Instagram to share a tribute to the “Loyal” singer. “Everyone wants to wait til people die to give them the credit they deserve. I’m calling it now when CB passes away after a long full life, you will miss what you had in front of you the whole time … trust me watch you will see,” the Canadian performer wrote.

“The people who have over looked this mans talent because of a mistake he made.. you need to reevaluate!” he added, referring to Brown’s 2009 assault incident with then-girlfriend Rihanna. Bieber went on to compare Breezy to the greats, posting his image side by side with Michael Jackson and Tupac calling it “the legendary equation.”

“MJ + 2 Pac equals CB,” the image read. “Love you,” Bieber concluded. Of course, it didn’t take long before people swarmed the post with their own thoughts and feelings.

While Nick Cannon, Marlon Wayans, and Sean Kingston agreed with Bieber, countless others did not. Some took offense to the comparison to musical icons and others called for the “Sorry” singer to apologize for referring to Brown’s assault against Rihanna as a mistake. “Abuse and assault are not ‘mistakes’ wtf,” one user tweeted.

Amid the controversy, The Game also weighed in telling TMZ, “I think that Chris Brown, when I watch him perform and I hear him sing, man, he reminds me a lot of MJ.” He went on to say, “Brown be out here thugging, so he got a little Tupac in him.” The rapper also sent a “f—k you” to artists refusing to work with the Virginia native.

Brown, however, took the high road and thanked Bieber for his post. “I LOVE YOU MAN! THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING IN ME,” he wrote. “YOUR STAR SHINES SO BRIGHT AND YOUR HEART IS UNMATCHED! YOU ARE A KING BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY YOU WERE PUT HERE TO INSPIRE AND CREATE ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES BRO! IM WITH YA TILL THE WHEELS FALL OFF AND WHEN THEY DO … WE GONE GET SOME NEW WHEELS.”

The singer recently made headlines himself after he left comments underneath Rihanna’s Instagram photo. “BOUGHT [sic] TO BREAK DA INTERNET! KEEP RISING QUEEN,” he wrote in response to Rih modeling her newest Savage X Fenty lingerie pieces. “MUSIC SOON PLEASE.”

In related news, Breezy has revealed his upcoming album, Indigo, will include features from Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Justin Bieber. The LP, due out in June, will also include 30 tracks in honor of his 30th birthday.
