Last week, it was revealed that Florida prosecutors are moving forward with building its case against rapper YNW Melly.
After reports surfaced that the state is seeking the death penalty in his double murder case, his mother Jamie Demons-King, visibly devastated, decided to go live on Instagram as she began processing the gravity of the situation. Now, a man claiming to be his biological father has broken his silence as well, reacting to his alleged son’s criminal case through some music of his own.
Melly’s dad, who goes by Donte “Tha Gift” Taylor, shared a new video on Tuesday (April 30), during which he proclaims his son’s innocence and remixes his breakout hit single, “Murder On My Mind.”
While it is currently unverified whether or not Taylor is the incarcerated rapper’s father as he claims to be, sources close to the rapper have seemingly confirmed their relationship.
During the emotional remix, aptly titled “Melly On My Mind,” Taylor sings a heartfelt dedication to YNW Melly, who has pleaded not guilty in the case. While the song isn’t mixed too well, it’s clear to see how Melly could have been influenced by Taylor’s musical talent. At the time of this report, Melly’s mother has not yet addressed the remix, nor verified Taylor’s claim that he is the teenager’s biological father.
In addition to the remix surfacing, another video, from YouTuber JudahSon, backs up Taylor’s identity and touches on the situation.
“I know YNW Melly’s mother and father,” he claims, around the 2:50-minute mark. “I actually grew up with them. I went to elementary school, junior high—so I know them very, very well. I grew up with the young man’s parents.”
While it is known that Demons-King is Melly’s mother, this song marks the first time someone has identified themselves as his biological father.
