If you’ve ever thought “Hmm, this sounds familiar” when you heard Travis Scott’s “No Bystanders” at the club or on the radio, you definitely weren’t the only one.

On Tuesday (April 23), TMZ revealed Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul has filed a lawsuit against the 27-year-old rapper for ripping off the hook from one of the groups most recognizable hits, “Tear da Club Up.” The track, released in November 1997, features the repetitive lyric “Tear da club up, tear da club up” in the style of a chant.

According to the lawsuit, DJ Paul argues that Scott’s song features similar lyrics in the same chanting format. In “No Bystanders,” the lyrics are as follows: “F—k da club up. F—k da club up.” Although the wording is different, the cadence is arguably noticeable.

DJ Paul was initially seeking $20 million from the Houston native, citing an estimated profit Scott has made from the track featured on his 2018 ASTROWORLD album. The LP debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 albums chart last August selling 537,000 album-equivalent units in its first week.

In January, ASTROWORLD was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after selling two million album-equivalent units in the United States.

By Tuesday afternoon, sources confirmed to TMZ that both parties have spoken to each other and a resolution is expected to be reached within the coming days.

The source also noted that Scott was the one who initiated the expected settlement with DJ Paul. A representative for the rapper confirmed the conversation between the two, but would not disclose further details to the site. Scott recently wrapped up his sold-out Astroworld Tour which is expected to become one of the highest grossing hip hop tours in recent years.
