LA electro glitch hip hop jazz fusionist savant Flying Louts is back with two new tracks to show us what he has been up to since the release of his debut film Kuso and his last album You’re Dead. The first peak we saw was a fascinatingly uncomfortable video co-directed by Steven Ellison (Fly Lo’s government name), and David Firth, and narrated by the king of fascinating discomfort, David f*cking Lynch. The two tracks FlyLo dropped off today are called “Spontaneous” which takes FlyLo’s skittering percussion and marries it to a peppier-than-usual funky instrumental, with help from malleable abstract pop whizzes Little Dragon. “Takashi,” (named after Takashi Kudo, not 6IX9INE) is another funky feel good departure from Fly Lo’s generally macabre-leaning or introspective style and a return to his employment of triumphant and joyous soul, yet maintain the production hallmarks of the (underrated) cosmic and morbid electro funk god Flying Lotus. If you need another reason to listen, just check the track list and features for his upcoming album Flamagra which is due out May 24th, and includes groundbreaking relative newcomers like Tierra Whack, Denzel Curry, and Thundercat, while leaving no shortage of commercial heavy hitters like Anderson. Paak, George Clinton, and Solange. Listen to “Spontaneous” and “Takashi” below and set a stop watch for when Flamagra drops.
