Kanye West’s Sunday Service has become a cultural phenomenon since wife Kim Kardashian began posting videos of the gathering on Instagram in January. The usually invite-only event will be open to the public as West is taking his show on the road to Coachella to kick off the last day of the festival.
Starting at 9 am PST, the event is opened to all weekend two ticket holders and will live stream on Coachella’s YouTube page.
Initially, West was in talks to headline this year’s Coachella, but negotiations fell apart after the festival wouldn’t accommodate his request for a more unique and different stage setup than the other acts on the bill.
What can you expect from Kanye’s Easter Sunday Service? The unexpected for sure. It’s unclear what Kanye and his choir will perform or if there are any special guests, but in the past, Kid Cudi, Tony Williams and 070 Shake have had an impromptu performance with Kanye during a Sunday Service.
The event isn’t just for Christians. In a recent interview with Elle, Kim Kardashians shared how people of all religions enjoy Ye’s Sunday Service.
“Kourtney’s best friends come all the time and they’re Muslim. All my Jewish friends came on Sunday; they loved it,” she said. “Everyone that comes understands it’s just a really healing experience with an amazing choir, and amazing messages about love to start off your week.”
Kardashian also revealed that it is a therapeutic experience for Kanye.
“I’m really excited for Kanye to perform [at] Coachella. I’ve never been,” she shared. “I’m so excited to be a part of it for the first time. And [the church], it’s honestly more like a healing experience for my husband. It’s just music; there’s no sermon. It’s definitely something he believes in—Jesus—and there’s a Christian vibe. But there’s no preaching. It’s just a very spiritual Christian experience.”
Fans are hoping West uses the Coachella service to drop new tunes. Fans have been teased with new music thanks to clips from past Sunday services and scenes of Ye in the studio during this season of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” One of the songs is called “New Body,” and reportedly features Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign. The “Kim Kardashian-inspired” song is expected to appear on West’s highly anticipated album Yandhi. Originally slated for a 2018 release, many fans are hoping the album drops after Sunday Service in the same way Ye released The Life of Pablo following his performance of “Ultralight Beam” on Valentine’s Day 2016 during “Saturday Night Live.”
