On Sunday (April 15), Ariana Grande made history as the youngest artist to headline Coachella. The 25-year-old pop star brought out all the stops for her monumental performance, bringing out a series of exciting surprise guests.
During the first of her two scheduled performances, Grande helped reunite the members of famed boy band ‘NSYNC, as well as brought out frequent collaborator Nicki Minaj. Much to the surprise of those in attendance, the Sweetener singer also called on Mase and Sean “Diddy” Combs for a high-energy rendition of “Mo Money Mo Problems,” in honor of the late Notorious B.I.G.
While on stage, Diddy took a moment to pay homage to Biggie, as well as salute the legacies of Tupac, Mac Miller and Nipsey Hussle.
“You got to keep that love in your heart,” the music mogul shared with the crowd prior to showing love to Grande.
“She’s been through a lot, and she’s still standing,” he added. “Give it up for the number one artist in the world.”
Elsewhere throughout her performance, Grande ran through an assortment of her biggest hits, including “God Is A Woman,” “Break Free,” “No Tears Left to Cry,” “7 Rings” and “Thank U, Next.”
She also performed “Side to Side” and “Bang Bang” alongside Minaj, who unfortunately experienced some technical difficulties with her mic. Despite the setback, the pair recovered, working the crowd with the assistance of a group of backup dancers.
From celebrating her roots as a 90s kid at heart to sharing the stage with cultural icons Diddy and Mase, Ariana Grande wasn’t lying when she said she had been preparing for this moment for her entire life. She is set to return to the Coachella stage this weekend on Sunday (April 21).
