Brooklyn rapper 6ix9ine recently landed a minor victory in his ongoing legal battle.

According to legal documents obtained by Complex, U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer has ruled that attorney Lance Lazzaro is allowed to return as an official representative of 6ix9ine’s. The rapper’s lawyer was initially removed from his defense team after concerns were vocalized about a possible conflict of interest stemming from the fact Lazzaro has previously worked on behalf of two of 6ix9ine’s co-defendants.

As reported, Lazarro previously represented Kifano “Shotti” Jordan on four separate cases between 2004 and 2015. One case resulted in a misdemeanor charge and the others were dismissed. Additionally, the high-profile attorney also represented Faheem “Crippy” Walter in an assault case. The assault charges, which have since been dropped, stemmed from a shooting that took place on Oct. 26, 2018 while 6ix9ine was celebrating his career’s successes at a dinner in New York City.

While the cases that Lazarro worked on are unrelated to 6ix9ine’s current federal charges, the prosecution voiced concern that the lawyer has gained “intimate knowledge” of the co-defendants and would therefore be privy to “privileged communications.” After being taken off the case, he was asked to submit “letters detailing the extent of his previous dealings with Kifano and Walter.”

The ruling that Lazarro could rejoin the case was made on Friday (March 22) after Judge Engelmayer reviewed the submitted affidavit and determined there was “no risk.”

“The Court is satisfied, given the brief nature of Mr. Lazzar’s prior representations of Mr. Jordan and Mr. Walter, the fact that those representations appear unrelated to the present case, and Mr. Lazzaro’s apparent lack of any privileged information of any consequences regarding them, that Mr. Lazzaro’s representation of Daniel Hernandez in this matter would not present an risk to these former clients, neither of whom has moved for Mr. Lazzaro’s disqualification,” the ruling reportedly read in part.

The 22-year-old rapper is expected back in court on March 28 to formally accept and acknowledge the reinstatement of Lazzaro. While the rapper has received ample backlash online from artists such as Meek Mill, 50 Cent, Offset and more, he is cooperating with authorities, a move that could result in less time behind bars.

As previously reported, 6ix9ine entered a guilty plea to nine felony counts due to his involvement with the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods and is currently facing at least 47 years in prison.
