Megan Thee Stallion, who today (March 22) dropped her latest single “Sex Talk” and earned a well-deserved slot on REVOLT TV’s “She Got Next” series, took to Instagram to share a shocking update with her fans.
The Houston rapper shared a photo from her childhood, informing her followers that her mother, Holly Thomas, had unexpectedly and suddenly passed away.
“The best mom in the whole world,” she captioned the throwback image. “The strongest woman on the planet. I can’t even put complete sentences together rn RIP mama.”
While more information regarding the death of her mother-turned-manager has yet to be made publicly available, her fans, also known as the Hotties, instantly began expressing their condolences on social media and reminding the rapper how much she is loved.
Holly played an integral role in her daughter’s career and passion for music, taking her along to studio sessions as a young girl as she recorded her own music under the moniker, Holly-Wood. In interviews, Megan fondly recalls how she was initially nervous to confide in her mother her true lifelong dream to become a rapper but was met with nothing but support (and the sage mandate to wait until she turned 21 to begin pursuing her career in music) once she did reveal her passion and raw talent.
“I went home and told her I could rap, and she was like, ‘No you can’t,’” Megan shared during a recent interview with Rolling Stone. “I’m like, ‘Yes I can.’ I started rapping and she was like ‘Oh my god! No, you not coming out ’til you’re 21!”
With the encouragement and support from her mom, Megan set out on the journey of balancing building her career in music with completing her degree in Health Administration at Texas Southern University. The 300 Entertainment signee is currently readying her anticipated Fever project, which is slated for a release sometime this year and will double as the follow-up to her breakout mixtape, 2018’s Tina Snow. As Megan Thee Stallion’s continues her ascent to the top of the rap game, we trust that her mother will continue to serve as a driving force for all that she accomplishes.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Megan and her family during this difficult time. RIP Mama Stallion.
