While the future of Fox’s “Empire” remains uncertain amid actor’s Jussie Smollett current legal battle, with the network not yet renewing the show for a possible sixth season, one actress is remaining in good spirits.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, “Empire” actress Taraji P. Henson weighed in on what it’s been like filming the show after news broke that Smollett is now facing 16 felony counts for allegedly orchestrating his own attack and falsifying a police report.

While promoting her new film, The Best of Enemies, Henson was asked about what it’s been like working on the show in the wake of Smollett’s situation, to which she responded, “It’s a great atmosphere.”

“You have to stay strong, stay positive, full of hope,” the 48-year-old continued, adding that her fellow “Empire” cast members are carrying on with business as normal despite their costar’s current legal predicament.

Elsewhere during the interview, Henson spoke on her upcoming film, which is set to debut in theaters on April 5.

“Racism is still here and we are still dealing with it and that’s why these movies are important,” she shared, discussing her upcoming role where she portrays Civil Rights activist Ann Atwater. “And the reason why I love this movie is the approach is different. Ann realized that she had to change her approach. [She and Ellis] were both… very passionate about what they believed, but on opposite sides of the spectrum. And it wasn’t until she fell back and she had to see him as a human [that she realized] barking and yelling at each other, that goes nowhere. That’s hate. Hate never wins.”

While Henson is keeping it moving and refraining from offering much insight into what it’s been like on set in the aftermath of her costar’s arrest, Smollett has reportedly been written out of the last two episodes of the show’s fifth season to “avoid further disruption” on set.

Last Thursday, Smollett pleaded not guilty to all 16 counts.
