Fans of the fast-rising duo City Girls have vocalized support and are eagerly awaiting updates regarding member JT’s release from jail. The group’s successes have been understandably bittersweet due to JT’s current incarceration, making her latest update an exciting one.
Taking to Instagram on Monday (March 12), the City Girls rapper shared an update from behind bars by thanking fans for their support during this chapter of her life. According to public records, she is currently being held at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tallahassee, Florida.
“The wait is almost over,” she captioned her post and adding a purple grinning devil emoji. “Thank you so much for the love & support. I told yal that 2019 is City Girls year. PERIOD! #FreeJT.”
During a recent visit, JT was able to catch up with her fellow City Girls co-founder and collaborator, Yung Miami, Quality Control’s Pierre “Pee” Thomas and her manager Caprie.
Last year, while the group was experiencing whirlwind success stemming from their collaboration with Drake (“In My Feelings”) and their well-received Girl Code album, JT reportedly turned herself into authorities to complete her prison sentence for fraudulent credit card charges. She was previously out on bond for a short while, allowing her to get in as much work as possible and record ample material to help appease fans while she serves her sentence. In the meantime, Yung Miami has admirably held down her partner by representing on behalf of what the young artists are working towards together.
According to documents obtained by Billboard, JT is slated to be released on March 21, 2020. While the rapper hints at an early release during her Instagram post, the news has not yet been confirmed.
Currently, City Girls’ “Twerk” collaboration with Cardi B sits at the No. 46 position on the Billboard Hot 100. The track marked the pair’s first entry on the chart and peaked at the No. 29 slot.
