In music, all it takes is one song to put you on the fast track to stardom — a fantasy that became reality for rapper Flipp Dinero. First gaining traction in 2017 with his mixtape The Guala Way, the newcomer returned the following year with his sophomore project, Guala See Guala, which spawned his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. That success sparked a bidding war between some of the hottest labels in the game with Epic Records ultimately securing Dinero’s services. And with key collaborations and well-received follow-up singles that kept his name in the conversation, it’s clear that Flipp Dinero is up next and ready to join the ranks of rap’s current leaders of the new school.
With Flipp Dinero set to take the REVOLT House stage by storm in Austin, Texas on March 14, we listed seven reasons why rap’s latest sensation should be on your radar. Get familiar.
1. His Brooklyn Pedigree
Few cities in rap hold the weight that Brooklyn, New York does. The borough’s track record for producing icons like Big Daddy Kane, The Notorious B.I.G., and JAY-Z, as well as recent stars like Young M.A., Bobby Shmurda, and 6ix9ine speaks for itself. Hailing from the Canarsie section of Brooklyn, Flipp Dinero’s area may not ring bells in the same fashion as Bed Stuy, Flatbush or Brownsville in terms of star-power. But, the upstart’s Brooklyn pedigree is a great indicator that he’s likely to become a force to be reckoned with sooner than later.
2. He’s Cosigned By Joey Bada$$
Spreading love is the Brooklyn way, an adage that rapper Joey Bada$$ stayed true to when taking a special interest in the talents of fellow Brooklynite Flipp Dinero. Released in 2017, Dinero’s single “I Do” caught the ears of the Pro Era leader, prompting him to introduce the rapper to Jonny Shipes, head of Cinematic Music Group. Cinematic, which helped shepherd Joey’s own career during his formative years in the business, welcomed Flipp Dinero to the roster later that year.
3. “Leave Me Alone”
Flipp Dinero’s name had been buzzing among rap insiders dating as far back as 2017. But in 2018, the rapper’s popularity took a gigantic leap with the release of his single “Leave Me Alone.” Produced by Cast Beats and Young Forever Beats, the song finds Dinero shunning the advances of an overzealous woman who’s been adding drama and stress to his life. Quickly becoming a viral hit after athletes like New York Giant Odell Beckham Jr. and Golden State Warrior Jordan Bell both posted clips of the song on Instagram, the fanfare surrounding the song turned the rapper into an overnight success. Peaking at No. 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, “Leave Me Alone” eclipsed platinum status. It gave the rookie his first bonafide hit and major building block in his career.
4. His Partnership With DJ Khaled
In August 2018, Flipp Dinero made headlines when it was announced that the rapper inked a deal with We The Best Music/Epic Records in conjunction with Cinematic Music Group. The partnership with We The Best, which is spearheaded by DJ Khaled, will only take Dinero’s profile to higher heights, as his CEO has a Rolodex filled with the hottest stars in music. And being that he’s already secured a breakthrough hit and displayed star potential, it’s a safe bet that he’ll be the label’s top priority for the foreseeable future.
5. His Diverse Skillset
Flipp Dinero’s commercial breakthrough may have come via his hit single “Leave Me Alone.” However, the Brooklyn rep is by no means a one-trick pony. His melodic harmonies account for a large part of his appeal, but there is more to Dinero than meets the eye. Equally adept at delivering dexterous bars as he is churning out infectious hooks, Dinero is sure to surprise more than a few with his versatile skillset the more listeners get familiar.
6. His Live Shows
Despite being a newcomer, Flipp Dinero has already proved himself to be a capable showman, as the neophyte has been tearing down stages for quite some time. In addition to wowing fans as an opening act on Tory Lanez’s ‘Memories Don’t Die Tour,’ Flipp Dinero has won over audiences at award shows (2018 BET Hip Hop Awards) and during late night TV appearances (Jimmy Kimmel Live!). With his ability to charm a crowd and to work a stage, Flipp Dinero’s live shows are must-sees.
7. His New Single
The latest release from Flipp Dinero to catch fire is “Feelin Like,” which captures the rapper in an inebriated state. Produced by Black Mayo, and boasting the same addictive harmonies that powered his previous hits, “Feelin Like” helped push Flipp Dinero’s momentum into 2019. And with multiple appearances on T-Pain’s new project, 1Up, he’s priming himself to be one of the biggest success stories in rap this year.
