While 21 Savage is currently facing his own set of challenges stemming from his recent ICE arrest, the rapper is choosing to focus his energy on doing some good for the community instead.
On Wednesday (Feb. 27), the Atlanta rapper announced the expansion of his 21 Savage Bank Account Campaign, sharing he will be continuing his partnership with non-profit organizations Get Schooled and Juma.
The initiative, which was first launched in 2018, helps provide resources to teach young people about the ins and outs of making money, budgeting properly, how credit works, the basics of investment and more. Overall, the rapper’s goal with this specific campaign is to increase the financial literacy of the country’s youth population across the board.
“While my #1 song was called ‘Bank Account,’ growing up, I knew almost nothing about bank accounts,” 21 Savage shared in a press release. “As I have gotten smarter about financial management, I realize how empowering it is to control your money rather than be controlled by it. I want to help kids with a background similar to mine to get smart about their money.”
According to the announcement, the next chapter of the campaign will see 21 Savage recruiting 150 at-risk youths who will be given the opportunity to work directly with the rapper-turned-mentor. Each participant will receive financial capability support, as well as will receive training while employed at Juma’s social enterprise, such as through working concessions at Suntrust Park and Mercedes Benz Stadium.
U.S. Congressman Hank Johnson, who was one of many vocalizing support of 21 amid his detainment by ICE, commented on the rapper’s continued community efforts.
“It’s no surprise that 21 Savage is continuing his work in making financial literacy a priority with the youth of our community,” the Georgia representative shared. “I continue to applaud his efforts, and I look forward to working with him as we create new positive opportunities for our young people.”
21 Savage first announced the launch of the 21 Savage Bank Account Campaign during an appearance on “The Ellen Show” last year.
