More developments are continuing to unfold in regards to 21 Savage’s ICE arrest and his potential deportation. On Sunday (Feb. 3), ICE officials detained the rapper and claimed that he was born in the U.K. Savage would later confirm that this reveal was true. Many of Savage’s fans were surprised by this admission because they believed him to be from Atlanta, Georgia, a city that he reps in his music.

Since then, Savage’s lawyers have issued statements about his ordeal. His legal team claims that the rapper became a target for the United States after he started rapping about immigration issues that many families in this country face. “Many have speculated as to possible ulterior motives for his arrest and detention, including that he released music five days prior to his arrest by ICE, which included new lyrics condemning the behavior of immigration officials for their detention of children at the border,” a portion of one of the attorneys’ statements reads. It’s also been confirmed that Savage had a Visa permit pending for the past four years before he reapplied for his U Visa in 2017.

Savage has been receiving much support by not only fans, but fellow recording artists, as well. From J. Cole, Meek Mill, Migos, Future and more; stars have voiced their disapproval of the i am > i was rapper’s arrest. Now, JAY-Z is entering the ring to help Savage in his deportation battle with ICE.

Hov is calling the artist’s arrest “an absolute travesty,” TMZ reports. He adds, “In addition to being a successful recording artist, 21 deserves to be reunited with his children immediately.” So, JAY-Z has enlisted his entertainment company Roc Nation to help the “a lot” rapper in his time of need by hiring attorney Alex Spiro to work him.

Spiro tells TMZ, “We are not going to stop until he is released, bonded out or in front of a judge … What we have here is someone who overstayed their Visa with an application pending for 4 years – not a convicted criminal that needs to be detained and removed but, by all accounts a wonderful person, father, and entertainer who has a marijuana offense which was vacated and sealed.”
