Kehlani fans have ample reason to celebrate.
Much like she promised at the end of 2018, the alternative R&B singer will be treating fans to new music before February comes to a wrap.
Taking to Instagram on Feb. 5, Kehlani revealed her forthcoming mixtape will be titled While We Wait. She also shared what many are perceiving to be the project’s official album artwork.
While We Wait, which may allude to both the singer anticipating the birth of her first child and the release of her sophomore album, marks the follow-up to her 2015 commercial mixtape, You Should Be Here.
Kehlani, who announced her pregnancy in October 2018, also recently dropped a new collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign titled “Nights Like This.” The pair also dropped an accompanying music video for the track in January, which has already garnered over seven million views on YouTube.
While the Bay Area native and mental health advocate had a relatively quiet 2018, she began teasing fans that the wait would be well worth it. This built anticipation surrounding her forthcoming projects.
During her post reflecting on 2018, the singer began teasing new music.
“After all the touring i got home and started an album, which resulted in completing a mixtape in a month (all while pregnant as hell lmaoooo) that will be coming early next year. the biggest gift i ever prayed for, my daughter, came to me 2018,” she wrote on Instagram. “i loved, lost, loved again. people, friends, family, spaces. i’m entering the next year more focused than ever, with so much to GIVE! music and much more. ready for 2019, January already feels golden. happy new years everyone! i love you!”
In addition to readying new music, the singer has also been preparing to welcome her first child. During a star-studded baby shower, Kehlani revealed that she and the baby’s father, Javie Young White, have landed a name for their daughter, Adaya Nomi. Those in attendance included SZA, Zendaya, Duckie Thot, Syd Tha Kyd, Ty Dolla $ign, Kamaiyah and more.
While Kehlani gets ready to begin the next chapter of her life as a mother, keep an eye out for more information surrounding her upcoming mixtape.
