Hip hop’s elite players better make room in their trophy cases as awards season is now in full swing.
On Wednesday (Jan. 9), iHeartMedia and FOX announced the nominees for the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards, which celebrates the work of today’s most popular artists and the music heard across the company’s national radio stations.
Per iHeartMedia, Cardi B and Drake lead the pack with 13 and eight nominations, respectively. As exemplified by Cardi B releasing her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, and consistently dominating pop culture during her breakout year; as well as by Drake earning 2018’s most streamed song (“God’s Plan”), both artists had colossal years.
Other artists who received multiple nominations include Ariana Grande, Post Malone, Shawn Mendes and Maroon 5. Other hip hop acts; such as Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, BlocBoy JB, Juice WRLD, Lil Pump, Lil Baby and XXXTentacion also made the nominees list.
“It’s no secret why this year’s iHeartRadio Music Awards nominees are a Who’s Who of music,” John Sykes, president of iHeartMedia Entertainment Enterprises, said in a statement. “These are the artists and the songs iHeartRadio listeners couldn’t get enough of this past year. It’s going to be an unforgettable show.”
