Industry executive, reality star and veteran rapper Benzino, born Raymond Scott, is unfortunately amid a serious legal battle that could land him behind bars.
As discovered by TMZ, the former “Love and Hip-Hop: Atlanta” star was arrested in January 2017. According to reports, Benzino’s apartment in Atlanta was raided by police who allegedly found various drugs during the search. As a result, he was charged with felony possession of THC oil gummies (22 grams), felony possession of 6 MDMA pills and misdemeanor possession of less than an ounce of weed.
Reports add that his legal team attempted to fight back against the initial charges, claiming the search and seizure was illegal. Unfortunately, a judge did not agree with the case against the 53-year-old now set to move forward.
As reported, if Benzino doesn’t take a plea deal, he could be looking at 15 years because of Georgia’s strict marijuana and drug laws.
Per TMZ, the rapper and his team will learn Wednesday (Dec. 12) when the case could head to trial. That is, if he doesn’t choose to cop a plea deal.
In 2003, Benzino became embroiled in a highly publicized beef with Eminem that resulted in the pair trading various diss tracks. Their tension came to a head during a historically volatile legal battle when Eminem filed, and later withdrew a lawsuit against the publication for defamation and copyright infringement.
