BY REVOLT / 11.5.2018
Mac Miller’s impact continues to be felt in the hip hop community and the world at large, as fans are still taking solace in being able to honor his legacy through his music.
As reported, the rapper’s official cause of death has been determined months after his Sept. 7 passing. According to a statement from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, Mac “died from mixed drug toxicity” including cocaine, fentanyl and alcohol. His death was ruled as an accidental overdose.
Fentaynyl, which is 30 times more powerful than heroin, has played a factor in the deaths of a number of celebrities, including Prince, Tom Petty and Lil Peep. Mac, who was 26 at the time of his passing, spent his career and time in the spotlight being transparent about his struggles with addiction, speaking openly about substance abuse in the past.
This past week, a tribute concert honoring Mac’s memory was held in Los Angeles. Proceeds from the emotional night benefitted the late rapper’s new foundation, the Mac Miller Circles Fund, which was established in his name to help provide resources to underprivileged youth.
Artists such as Travis Scott, Chance the Rapper, SZA and John Mayer, among others, took to the stage to pay homage to the late MC and celebrate his life and legacy.
Mac’s ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande recently released a new song called “Thank U Next.” On it, she sings the heartfelt line, “Wish I could say ‘thank you’ to Malcolm / ‘Cause he was an angel.”
Rest in peace, Mac Miller.
