Beyoncé and JAY-Z spent the last four months on the road, making it look like one long effortless and enjoyable tour run. However, both artists were putting in some serious work and their dedication to perfecting their live show yielded them an astronomical payoff — you know, outside of further cementing their legacies both as individuals and as a power couple alike.
According to Billboard, the “On The Run II” world tour earned the couple over $253.5 million and sold a reported 2,177,000 tickets. When breaking down the tour by the numbers, it shows that Beyoncé and JAY-Z maintained an average barometer of $5.28 million each night.
The 48-date tour, which began in Wales on June 6 and concluded on Oct. 4 in Seattle, more than doubled the couple’s previous record. In 2014, the first “On The Run” tour grossed $109 million and sold 980,000 tickets.
As fans can happily recall, ten days into the tour, the Carters released their joint album, Everything Is Love. The collaborative surprise project debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, earning 123,000 album equivalent units its first week.
Throughout the “On The Run II” tour, Beyoncé and JAY-Z donated over a million dollars through a scholarship initiative that awarded a select number of qualifying high school students $100,000 toward higher education.
On top of donating to young students in need throughout the different tour stops, the couple also recently helped raise a reported $6 million for City of Hope.
Tonight (Oct. 23), the Carters’ philanthropy continues with TIDAL X set to take over Brooklyn. This year, proceeds from the annual affair will go toward organizations that are dedicated to criminal justice reform.
When it comes to making money and making a difference, the example set by the Carters truly is next-level inspirational.
