Cardi B is kicking off her weekend on a positive footing. Thursday (Oct. 18) morning, the Invasion of Privacy rapper made a visit to a public housing complex in Brooklyn and donated hundreds of free winter coats and shoes to those in need.
According to reports, some waited outside for upwards of four hours for a chance to meet the Bronx rapper and hopefully receive the donated goods despite temperatures dropping to 40 degrees. The event was put together by a local designer and personal friend of Cardi’s. The superstar rapper reportedly was eager to get onboard and lend a helping hand to support the cause.
“I didn’t know it was going to be so big!” Cardi shared with reporters at ABC. “My homeboy Chuck told me ‘Hey, let’s give out coats to our community. I know somebody who’s trying to give out coats,’ and I said, ‘I’m pulling up, what’s up, I’m in here, let’s go!’”
In addition to support from Cardi, companies such as Trax NYC, Daniel’s Leather and NY Tent Sale helped contribute to the charitable act.
“I can’t wait to [do] this in my borough next,” Cardi wrote on Instagram, sharing her plans to continue giving back as the winter season approaches.
Recently, the rapper shut down rumors of a new diss track aimed at Nicki Minaj, confirming the song doesn’t exist and blasting TMZ for disrespecting her current wish to keep her daughter Kulture out of the spotlight.
Additionally, on Tuesday (Oct. 23), Cardi B is slated to perform at TIDAL X alongside Lil Wayne, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Meek Mill, Lil Kim and countless others. The proceeds from year’s event will be allocated towards nonprofit organizations that focus on fighting social injustice.
