Currently the nation’s attention is fixated on the upcoming verdict regarding whether or not Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh will be voted in by the Senate , in the midst of allegations of sexual misconduct.

This past week, the FBI launched a formal investigation into the matter, with the situation dividing the country for a slew of reasons, both personal and political. At the time of this report, the U.S. government has not confirmed when the vote will be held but, according to CNN, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has promised a vote will take place this week.

In the meantime, celebrities are rallying behind the cause, with many coming together in support of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez, both of whom have come forward accusing Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct. Considering the grave severity of both the claims and the highest court position Kavanaugh could be appointed to, the protest effort is calling for the nominee’s ineligibility and questioning his ethical and moral standards.

On Thursday (Oct. 4), a protest effort has been organized to take place right outside of the Supreme Court and is set to feature appearances from Alicia Keys, Erykah Badu, Maxwell, Michael Stipe and Esperanza Spalding, among others.

“If there was ever a moment when the voice of the people can come together in concert to change the fate of our nation, this is it,” the protestor organizers, Party Majority PAC, shared in a statement on Tuesday (Oct. 2). “Arm in arm, organized and ready, every child, woman, and man, must take to the streets to protest this nomination. The legitimacy of the nation’s highest court is at stake as is the future of our country.”

The protest movement also calls for those who cannot attend the event in person to instead call key senators, such as Jeff Flake and Susan Collins and make their opinions known.
