As exemplified time and time again over the past year and change, no Cardi B slander will be tolerated or, at least, will go by unnoticed.
As the Bronx-born rapper continues her ascent as a worldwide phenomenon, making history along the way, it is only fitting that her bucket list looks a lot different than what it looked like during her days on Love and Hip-Hop. In fact, it now could include checking off a legendary performance at none other than the Super Bowl.
Recently, it was announced that Maroon 5 has been selected to perform during the Super Bowl halftime show in 2019, instantly sparking rumors that a surprise appearance from Cardi B is a safe bet to make.
However, according to a new report from TMZ, Cardi and her team are in talks to take it a step further and lock down not only a guest appearance (to predictably perform the collaborative track “Girls Like You,”) but to also get some solo airtime during the annual affair.
Considering how the track helped Cardi B to make history, becoming the first female rapper to land three No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, it’s clear the audience is rooting in her favor.
The Super Bowl planning committee experienced a wave of backlash following the announcement Maroon 5 was slated to perform next year, with many feeling as though since Atlanta, a historic hotbed for taste-making rap music, is playing host—and considering hip-hop is the No.1 globally-consumed genre—a rap act would have been a more appropriate and welcoming choice for the league to make. Perhaps pressure to respond to said criticisms has the committee reevaluating and looking for a way to better appease fans of both hip-hop and football alike.
While there has yet to be a new statement issued from the NFL organizers, fans are certainly expressing their desire for Cardi B to dominate the highly televised stage next year, with rumors also circulating that Travis Scott has entered into similar talks. More on this story as it develops.
