Hip-hop suffered a grave loss last summer after Albert “Prodigy” Johnson, one-half of the legendary rap group Mobb Deep, passed away in June 2017 after an ongoing health battle at the age of 42.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting confirmation on how co-founding member Havoc will proceed regarding any vaulted recordings they created together, with a recent appearance on Drink Champs explaining that he wanted to “give it a little time” before pursuing releasing any new music.
After confirming to hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN that “there’s definitely a Mobb Deep album in the stash,” earlier this year, the Queensbridge MC has officially announced that 2018 will see the release of a Mobb Deep album.

According to Havoc, he is working on the album closely with Prodigy’s family, adding, “The way I’m reflecting on it is I’m just trying to keep the legacy alive.”
During his recent Drink Champs appearance, Havoc also explained that there is a Mobb Deep documentary in the works, as well as outlined future plans to tell his late collaborator’s story in the form of a Hollywood biopic.
“It’s gonna be a Mobb Deep documentary,” Hav revealed. “An extraordinary company gave me a lane—I don’t want to say who yet because the contracts are not done yet, but it’s a good company we all know—and they’re giving me a lane to do documentaries, not just on Mobb Deep, but on a few artists that I love.”
While a release date and other details regarding the aforementioned projects are still being determined, Havoc assured fans that the forthcoming album will “be out there pretty soon, before the end of the year.”
