Royce Da 5’9″ and DJ Premier are roughly a week away from the release of their highly anticipated joint follow-up to their 2014 self-titled debut, PRhyme.
As previously reported, the sophomore effort, PRhyme 2, is scheduled for a March 16 release, meaning that the iconic pair is appropriately making a series of press runs to promote the project in the days ahead.
During a recent stop at Funkmaster Flex’s Hot 97 headquarters, at Ciroc Studios in New York City, Royce absolutely destroyed a 10-minute freestyle over the instrumental for Nas’ “New York State of Mind,” which was fittingly produced by Preemo himself back in 1994.
The freestyle comes with a bit of a disclaimer, with Royce kicking it off with a warning message that whatever is about to happen in the booth is entirely Funk Flex’s fault.
Needless to say, the veteran rapper does not disappoint. As exemplified throughout his lengthy career, Royce 5’9″ is a tried-and-true lyricist and if anyone ever needed a reminder, or a re-introduction, to his skills on the mic, this freestyle is absolutely a must-watch.
