Too $hort’s phone has been blowing up this weekend with messages of congratulations. However, the veteran rapper himself says he wasn’t exactly sure why, joking that he hadn’t done anything to warrant all the praise.
While in Los Angeles for a variety of star-studded festivities surrounding the 2018 NBA All-Star weekend, the Oakland native chopped it with REVOLT TV’s Shaheem Reid, during which it was revealed to Too $hort himself that his music can be heard helping soundtrack a scene in Marvel’s Black Panther.

As expressed in the candid interview above, Too $hort’s inclusion in the film came as a surprise to him, even admitting that because he hasn’t seen the movie yet, he wasn’t entirely sure what all the excitement was about that resulted in people excitedly calling him around the clock.
“I haven’t seen it yet but I know I’ve gotten a bunch of texts this morning saying ‘You know your film is in the movie right?!’” he says, with a smile. “I don’t even know what song it is!”
After Reid points out that it is actually Too $hort’s song that opens the film, and during a scene in his hometown of Oakland no less, the rapper responds with an animated “Daaamnnn!”
