More than a week since The Weeknd teased a connection to the upcoming Black Panther film, and just two days after Kendrick Lamar unveiled its star-studded soundtrack, the men share their joint effort, “Pray For Me.” (The duo previously collaborated on the Starboy cut “Sidewalks.”)
Over a beat of blunted synth pads, Abel opens the show with his classically dark introspection: “Tell me who’s gonna save me from myself? / When this life is all I know / Tell me who’s gonna save me from this hell? / Without you, I’m all alone / Who gon’ pray for me? / Take my pain for me? / Save my soul for me?”
K.Dot enters with trademark confidence and determination: “I fight the world, I fight you, I fight myself / I fight God, just tell me how many burdens left / I fight pain and hurricanes, today I wept / I’m tryna fight back tears, flood on my doorsteps.”
“Pray for Me” follows Black Panther soundtrack cuts “All The Stars” with SZA, and “King’s Dead” with Jay Rock, Future, and James Blake. Listen below.
