After taking what he calls “a break for a minute to reevaluate” himself, Shy Glizzy is back and delivering on his promise of new music.
2014 was a solid year for the Washington, D.C. rapper as his single “Awwsome” was met with rave reviews and peaked at No.45 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The following year, Shy would find himself honored amongst his peers after gracing the cover of XXL‘s 2015 Freshman Issue. And last year brought even more success Glizzy’s way upon teaming up with fellow D.C. native Goldlink on his song “Crew,” which would garner them both a Grammy nomination.
While excited about the recognition, Glizzy told REVOLT TV during a recent sit-down that he’s looking forward to doing it on his own in the future, saying, “I’m really just tryna get rich. Tryna get really, really rich. I ain’t tryna get really famous, but if fame comes with it than that’s what comes with it.”
And this new project just might do it for him. Calling it his “best body of work yet,” Shy Glizzy says his new EP, Quiet Storm, is what the fans have been waiting for. With 18 songs, and features from the likes of Trey Songz and Dave East, Glizzy’s followers will have a full project to feast on.
He said of the project, “I put a lot of hard work and dedication into it. Actually listen to what I’m talking about. Listen to the message that’s behind it. It’s not the swag, it’s not the beat. I mean, all that’s perfectly fine, but the message that’s coming across.”
Shy Glizzy also spoke to REVOLT TV about the death of his brother, his motivations, and more. Watch the interview above and listen to Quiet Storm below.
