The family that skates together, stays together. For a while we’ve been seeing Swizz Beatz show, via Instagram videos, that he’s as smooth and comfortable on a pair of rollerskates as he is behind a control board or set of turntables. And so, he made sure to incorporate the activity into his wife Alicia Keys’ birthday celebration last night (January 25) during her Wu-Tang Clan-themed surprise party at TAO in New York’s Meatpacking District.

Chairs and tables were removed from its subterranean restaurant to give ample space for a makeshift skating rink. Swizz supplied the skates though some guests, like Fabolous, brought their own.

Also joining the power couple were, of course, the Wu’s Ghostface and Raekwon, along with Nas, Jadakiss, Pusha T, LaLa Anthony, Terrence J, Roc Nation executive Lenny S., Steve Stoute, and more.

“[This is] something that’s never been done before in New York City history,” Swizz said on the mic while surrounded by his wife and their family. “[We] turned TAO into a skating rink. Don’t be afraid to put your skates on and celebrate life tonight. She gives too much to the world for us not to celebrate life tonight.”

And celebrate they did. You can’t get a much better gift than Raekwon performing at your party. The Chef took the mic and hit the crowd with a flurry of classics from “Incarcerated Scarfaces” to “Criminology.”

“You made this shit a Wu-Tang fuckin’ party?” Rae asked in amazement. “That’s honorable. Y’all a beautiful couple to me. I can’t believe you had a fuckin’ Wu-Tang Party. Salute, baby girl.”

Earlier in the night, Keys and Swizz were the main honorees at the 11th annual Producers & Engineers Wing Grammy Week Celebration at Rockefeller Plaza’s Rainbow Room where the couple received the President’s Merit Award. Below, the husband and wife talk about the honor.
