You never thought that hip-hop would take it this far.
Never silent in the societal and cultural structures of today, T.I. and Killer Mike have long been important mouthpieces for our generation. Whether it’s Tip being vocal about the President’s “racial tendencies” or Killer Mike openly advocating black ownership and voting, the two Atlanta rappers are no strangers to speaking pointedly and eloquently on hot button issues. Taking that on board, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, who was elected into office last year, added both artists to her full transition team.
Mayor Bottoms announced the big news in a press conference held Thursday morning (January 11), revealing a bright cast nearly 40 people, including T.I., Killer Mike, as well as educator Ron Clark. “The best and the brightest in the city of Atlanta,” Bottoms praised. “I’m so pleased to have such solid leadership on my side to help navigate this.”
As members of the transition team, these individuals “will put a framework around certain initiatives” for the Mayor. Among her top priorities in office is tackling youth violence.
Mayor Bottoms is the city’s first female mayor since 2010.
