Between festival lineups, a few artist resolutions, and early slate of album releases, 2018 is already off to a great start. Adding to that excitement now is Kendrick Lamar, who dropped a surprise this morning by revealing that he, along with help from Top Dawg label head Anthony Tiffith, produced and curated the soundtrack for Marvel’s Ryan Coogler-directed “Black Panther” film.

The news was revealed via a press release this morning (January 4), stating “Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel’s vision.”

The first taste of this sonic vision can be heard on “All the Stars,” a collaboration between K. Dot and his Grammy-nominated labelmate SZA. Featuring a finger-snapping groove and celestial synths, the record arrives after Kendrick teased his involvement in the film’s soundtrack in the recent music video for his latest DAMN. single “LOVE.”

Marvel’s “Black Panther,” which stars Chadwick Boseman as the iconic masked superhero and a long list of talented stars, hits theaters February 16th. The TDE-backed soundtrack arrives February 9th.
