Meek Mill couldn’t spend the New Year like most of us, celebrating with friends and family, but the imprisoned, energetic MC was definitely not forgotten by his peers as 2018 rang in. On Friday (Dec. 29), Drake referenced Meek Milli on the “Family Feud” freestyle with Lil Wayne.

“I need my paper long like a Milli verse or too long like a sentence from a Philly judge. / Fuck is the point in all the beefin’ when we really blood?” Drizzy raps.

On Sunday (Dec. 31), during the livestream on REVOLT TV of his New Year’s Eve party, Sean “Diddy” Combs told the viewing audience and Reverend Al Sharpton he had just talked to Meek earlier in the day.

“I’m so proud of you because Black excellence is personified by you,” Sharpton applauded the REVOLT TV chairman as they sat on Diddy’s staircase inside his home. “You keep it Black. A lot of people in hip-hop and a lot of people in music went mainstream. You brought mainstream Black. They came to us because of you.”

Puff then revealed some of his convo with the Philly King. “I spoke to Meek today. This is private business but I think y’all should know he’s in good spirits. I personally heard his voice. Pops [Reverend Al] is helping him. We gonna stay tuned. And we gonna break Meek out.”

In November 2017, just days after Thanksgiving, Reverend Al spoke to REVOLT as he visited Meek in Chester, PA at the State Correctional Facility, later comparing Meek to Tupac Shakur.

“He seemed very strong. He seemed very determined,” the Civil Rights leader said in a press conference after seeing Meek. “He does not seem bitter. He’s a very bright guy. Many years ago, I was asked to visit Tupac Shakur in jail. I helped to negotiate him out of solitary. Not out of jail, he was in solitary. I’m glad what we’ve gotten here, [Meek’s] lawyers made sure he was not in solitary.”

“You could see Tupac was brilliant,” Reverend Al added. “I said ‘You’re nothing like your image.’ He said, ‘Neither are you, Reverend.’ It was a Tupac moment for me with Meek. He’s very bright, very determined. He was worried about his son. Wanted to make sure his son and mother were alright.”

On New Year’s night, Wale held his seventh annual Wale and Friends concert at the Fillmore in Silver Springs, MD. He was joined by MMG Head Rick Ross and they both paid tribute to Mill. The words “Free Meek” were also displayed on the screens on the stage.
