Kevin Gates has spent a majority of his 2017 behind bars, with the Baton Rouge rapper being sentenced to 30 months in jail for a previous gun charge back in April. As previously reported, after serving a six-month sentence for kicking a female fan during a concert, an out-of-state warrant was discovered while he was being processed, which, in turn, prevented his release at the time.
While he has kept busy releasing new material during his incarceration, after being denied bail, it appears as though things may finally be looking up for Gates in the new year.

As reported, the Illinois Department of Corrections website has updated Gates’ parole date, moving it up to January from its previously scheduled date in June 2018.
Per the document (see below), the parole date has now been set for Jan. 10, 2018. Although additional information is limited at this time, Gates will go through the normative due process and will have to convince the court that he has earned the opportunity to be considered for early parole.
Regardless of the legal logistics, the updated parole status is certainly a good sign. Perhaps the optimistic words he shared with fans back in September helped manifest the encouraging news.
