Tragedy struck Rihanna’s family this Christmas season when it was discovered that the singer’s cousin was shot and killed in Barbados the day after the holiday.

He was identified by Sky News as 21-year-old Tavon Kaiseen Alleyne.

The site reports that Alleyne was “walking near his home in Lakes Close, Eden Lodge, St Michael at around 7pm when he was approached by a man who shot him multiple times and fled the scene.” He was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Rihanna took to Instagram to pay tribute to her cousin, sharing photos of them together, calling for an end to gun violence, and writing:

“RIP cousin… can’t believe it was just last night that I held you in my arms! never thought that would be the last time I felt the warmth in your body!!! Love you always man! 😢❤ #endgunviolence.”

She also shared a video of him speaking to the camera and positively delivering the message: “It’s nice to wake up and see all your brothers and sisters.”

Alleyne had also shared photos of Rihanna on his own Instagram account over the last year, notably at a christening and a movie night.

Jim Jones’ family also suffered tragedy this holiday when his mother’s house burned down.
