Although Pharrell didn’t reassume his duties as a voice coach on NBC’s The Voice this season, he did make a happy return to the celebrated competition series to perform alongside his alternative funk band, N.E.R.D.
For the performance, which took place during Tuesday night’s season 13 finale (Dec. 19), the storied group ran through their hit “Lemon,” which appears on their recent album, No One Ever Really Dies.
With Pharrell kicking off the song, under blue-tinted lights, the group was then joined on stage by a crew of dancers, with each sporting a hoodie. As Rihanna’s guest verse poured out over the speakers, the crowd then disbands to reveal Mette Towley, who was featured in the stunning original music video for the track.
After running through an engaging solo dance routine, backed by two women holding signs that displayed various messages, Towley rejoins the group, with every person on stage ending the dynamic performance with their fists raised in the air in unity.
As reported, this season’s winner of the voice was a singer named Chloe Kohanski, who was coached by country staple Blake Shelton.
