Rihanna is no stranger to taking to social media to share her opinions on politics and current events, most recently using her platform to express her outrage over the case of Cyntoia Brown.

Brown, is a former child sex slave who suffered years of abuse, including being exploited, drugged, trafficked for sex and repeatedly raped. In 2004, at age 16, she got the courage to kill one of her predators, a move that led to her arrest and later her being tried and convicted as an adult. Brown, 29, was sentenced to 51 years in prison for the first-degree murder of her abuser.

In 2011, a documentary, Me Facing Life: Cyntoia’s Story aired, with the film providing heartbreaking details about the young girl’s life, both before and after she became a victim of sex trafficking.

Brown’s story has recently gone viral, with the #FreeCyntoiaBrown hashtag trending on Twitter and Instagram, leading celebrities such as Rihanna and Kim Kardashian to express their outrage regarding the criminal justice system.

“Did we somehow change the definition of ‘Justice’ along the way?,” Rihanna wrote, posting on Instagram. “[Be]cause something is horribly wrong when the system enables these rapists and the victim is thrown away for life! To each of you responsible for this child’s sentence, I hope to God you don’t have children, because this could be your daughter being punished for punishing already! #FreeCyntoiaBrown #HowManyMore”

RiRi also shared a photo of Brown as an adult, highlighting how she earned her associate’s degree from Lipscomb University and is currently working toward her master’s.
