When it comes to a debut album, Cardi B is moving on her own time.
Back in September, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper received some cogent advice from J. Cole, who hopped on Twitter and suggested that there is nothing wrong with slow-cooking her debut album. “Don’t put all that pressure on your album,” he wrote. “You already won. Just drop & repeat.” Two months removed, Cardi is keeping on at her own pace.
Cardi, who made history yet again this month by becoming the first woman to ever have her first three songs simultaneously chart in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart (“Bodak Yellow,” “Motorsport,” “No Limit”), recently shared an update on the progress of her album. Taking to Twitter, she admitted, “I have a lot of pressure on me.”
“I have songs stashed up. I just don’t think they qualified for my album. Sometimes I think [it’s] ready sometimes I think it’s not so I’m going to take my time till it’s right.”
The comments by the rapstress are similar to ones she recently gave Rolling Stone in her cover story. “I got six, seven solid songs that I like, but I wonder if a month from now, I’m going to change my mind,” she shared.
While the pressure is surely on, Cardi seems to have found her groove. Over the weekend, she shared previews to a few songs that might be worth throwing on the album.
