Miguel’s upcoming War & Leisure album (due December 1) is shaping up to be a standout project. We’ve so far heard “Sky Walker,” “Shockandawe,” “Now” and “Told You So,” and yesterday the singer shared “Pineapple Skies.”
(Familiar fans will recall that he debuted this back in July on Snoop Dogg’s GGN show.)
A bass line, finger snaps, and shimmery keys kick off the funky and uplifting track that you can’t help but feel good while listening to. Miguel is as encouraging as ever, his smile nearly audible while delivering lyrics that are scattered with his yelps:
“So breathe strong enough, baby / Leave us so high, our feet won’t touch the ground / Hell, can we look up? Look up baby / It’s pineapple purple skies / Promise everything gon’ be alright / Don’t forget to hold on tight / While we Stevie Wonder through the night / Don’t tomorrow seem so bright / Don’t look down, we’re still up / Something like a thriller.”
