Back in 2015, 2 Chainz tested the waters regarding how his fans and others would react to the idea of his transitioning into getting more involved with politics.
Most recently, during a sit-down on The Daily Show With Trevor Noah, the Georgia native revisited the topic, explaining how he is still optimistic about the idea to run for mayor of his hometown, College Park.
“I could,” the rapper began, addressing his past interest in running for mayor. “I’m from College Park. It’s a city right outside of Atlanta, Georgia and I’m passionate about my neighborhood, my community. The mayor that was currently serving when I was thinking about taking the crown from him had been there for 20 or 30 years, so they were eager for a change. But they had a few pre-requisites that I couldn’t meet like staying in the same county and things like that because I didn’t want to stay in the same county still. I was about growth. It’s about growth and maturation. I feel like one day I could do something like that.”
He then explains what would be on his agenda if he were to be in a position of political influence, revealing the legalization of medical marijuana would be on the docket, as well as items that would help give back to the community’s youth.
“I would definitely have medicinal marijuana as an alternative to opium,” the Southern entertainer revealed to the host. “I would just do things in the community, start with things that I’m basically true to that I have my hand in. I would also deal with funding a lot of the county programs, sports programs, and things like that because I feel like a lot of kids don’t come outside anymore. A lot of them either play video games or are on their phones, so I would like to do things in the community to give them something to do 24 hours a day.”
Tity Boy previously has received praise from his fans for his interest in getting involved with politics, with his 2015 heated debate with Nancy Grace about the legalization of marijuana helping earn him support from others to pursue such an endeavor.
