Over the weekend, obscured and ambiguous N.E.R.D. ads and posters began to pop up around neighborhoods and at California’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival, heightening anticipation that the trio was returning to the music scene for the first time since 2010’s Nothing LP. Then, Pharrell and Beats 1 radio show host Zane Lowe each took to Twitter yesterday (October 31) to tease a tune-in this morning, and the duo didn’t disappoint.

On the Apple Music show just a few moments ago, the band premiered their new track “Lemon” featuring Rihanna.

The collaboration kicks off with Pharrell declaring, “And the truth will set you free, but first it’ll piss you off” before debuting its bouncy and raucous beat, complete the trio’s signature drum thumps and echoed pings, and a sampled vocal on loop that demands “Wait a minute!” Skateboard P and RiRi alternate swagged-out staccato verses, with her saying:

“I get it how I live it / I live it how I get it / Count the motherfuckin’ digits / I pull up with a lemon / Not ’cause she ain’t living / It’s just your eyes get acidic / And this here ain’t a scrimmage / Motherfucker, we ain’t finished.”

In the already-released visual, Rihanna makes a cameo as she’s first seen shaving Mette Towley’s head before the dancer moves to a blacklight-lit store to carry the rest of the clip with stunning solo choreography. Hear it below via YouTube, Spotify, TIDAL, and Apple Music.
