Wu-Tang Clan has assembled once again for the collective’s latest album, The Saga Continues. Throughout the 18-track project, original members such as Method Man, Ghostface Killah and the late ODB make appearances. And to spread awareness that the album is now available at retailers, Wu-Tang mastermind RZA stopped by The Breakfast Club. He was accompanied by DJ Mathematics, the longtime Wu DJ who also produced The Saga Continues in its entirety.
RZA spoke about how his feelings towards hip-hop and its artists growing old has changed over the years, saying, “It was hard to envision, but having knowledge of self is something that gives you that ability to know that your duty is to represent culture and inspire the youth.” RZA also admitted that hearing Ghostface Killah commit to making music until he’s in his 70s assisted with the change of perspective.
RZA’s most recent foray into the film world is Love Beats Rhymes, directed by himself, Jill Scott, Common and Azealia Banks. Though the legendary music producer and the “212” rapper have publicly had their issues, RZA praised her performance. “I was very angry at a point, but I can’t be angry at her talent, because she delivered,” he said.
Also noted during the entertaining sit-down was that RZA was given his first shot in Hollywood by Harvey Weinstein. The embattled Hollywood producer’s name has remained in headlines lately as at least 40 allegations of sexual harassment and assault have been brought against him. “I think some people have a natural ability to attract the opposite whether they have money or not, and some people need money and power to do it,” said RZA.
