This month will be one to remember for Queen Latifah. October 2017 will see the hip hop legend and Hollywood power player not only be honored with the REVOLT Icon Award at the forthcoming fourth annual REVOLT Music Conference (RMC), but also find Latifah’s classic song, “Ladies First” turning the big 2-8.
“A woman can bear you, break you, take you / Now it’s time to rhyme, can you relate to / A sister dope enough to make you holler and scream,” rapped the Queen on the single from her debut album, All Hail the Queen. Featuring another hip hop foremother, Monie Love – who unveiled the news of the song’s 28th anniversary to REVOLT – the female empowerment record has made it onto many “All-Time Best Of” lists over the years.
“Ladies First” was recorded 28 years ago in Manhattan at Calliope Studios, on the very same weekend as the Revolt Music Conference,” says Love.
